Free Resource: The American Presidency Project

Have you ever wondered . . .

Which United States President delivered the longest State of the Union Address?

How many press conferences were held by any one United States President during the course of their term?

Who popularized Fireside Chats and delivered a speech with the well-known catch phrase, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”?

All of this and more is available through The American Presidency Project, a free online web resource developed by the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1999 containing access to over 84,000 primary source documents.

The American Presidency Project includes:

  • Data Archive – A rich resource of information and data visualization covering various aspects of the United States Presidency
  • Document Archive – Various documents broken down by type
  • Presidential Elections Data – Information visualization showing the United States and election statistics state-by-state
  • Audio/Video Archives – Selected audio and video samples of famous speeches by President Herbert C. Hoover up through the present
  • Presidential Libraries – Links to foundations, libraries, archives, and museums of past U.S. Presidents

There is something for everyone here. If you are a student interested in political science, United States history, or information/data visualization then you are sure to spend hours sifting through the treasure chest of information made available here.
