It’s halfway through the quarter and you know what that means? Mid-terms!! Cram study sessions with your fellow students, last minute modifications to that display board for class, checking the timing of your PowerPoint presentation, and other fun learning activities.

As we are in the half-way mark of winter quarter, we here in the Library would like to point out the ability of your iPod/iPhone to achieve many and wondrous things. Little did you know that you can use your iPod Touch/iPhone (or other mobile device) as a reference tool. Reading a chapter for Chemistry and come across a word you don’t recognize? Don’t worry! If you’ve already downloaded the Dictionary.com iPhone app you can simply look up the word without delay.

But wait! There’s more!

  • Stanza: Read books on your mobile device. Includes classics, as well as current fiction titles.
  • 2010 World Factbook: Interested in geography, economic situation around the world, or just want to find out more about another country? The 2010 World Factbook has what you need!
  • OCLC WorldCat Mobile: Did you ever want to know what other libraries have a particular book? Searching OCLC (Online Computer Library Catalog) WorldCat Mobile will connect you with libraries in your backyard and around the world!
  • University of Maryland Medical Center Medical Encyclopedia: If you are interested in medical diseases, injuries, or conditions, you will find a tremendous resource in this UMMC Medical Encyclopedia. Containing over 50,000 pages of medically reviewed information, this free app can keep you connected to some of the primary literature in the allied health field.

These are just a few of the iPod Touch/iPhone apps you will find that can be used to keep you connected to your assignments and keep information right at your fingertips.

Do you have a favorite iPod Touch/iPhone app that has been incredibly useful to you in your studies? Please post in the comments section and let us (and your fellow students) know! We would love to hear from you!
